CBLIS 2001 is the fifth conference in a series of conferences organised by active workers with an interest
in the use of computer-based learning to enhance teaching and learning in science.

The first conference CBLIS’93 held at the Technical University of Vienna was supported by over
100 participants and laid the foundation for the next international conferences.

The second conference CBLIS’95 held at the Silesian University Opava in the Czech Republic featured
a series of professionally produced proceedings Computer Based Learning in Science.

The third conference CBLIS’97 was held at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK and attracted participants from 20 different nations.

The fourth conference CBLIS’99 held at the University of Twente, Enschede in the Netherlands kept
the high level of previous conferences and brought some new elements in the conference programme.

The quality of the papers presented and the excellent social programme, which ensured strong links between all participants, guaranteed the success of the conferences.
